Music plays an important part of worship at St Columba’s. The Fellowship as a whole enjoy singing both traditional and more modern hymns. A small choir is formed for special occasions such as Christmas and Easter.
The series of lunchtime Organ Concerts which take place on Saturdays over 6 weeks in January /February are very well attended. They are available on YouTube with the handle @PrioryConcerts.
Throughout the year we host a variety of choirs and ensembles as well as the occasional choir from the United States.
The technical bit:
The Lewis organ at St Columba’s was installed in 1907 with a pneumatic action and a detached console. It was fully restored in 2008 by Andrew Carter of Wakefield, with additional stops and converted to electric action. More recently the Trumpet and Posaune stops were installed on the Great and Pedal divisions along with additional levels and a sequencer added to the piston memory system.
